This project was designed to show how the appearance of the same color is affected other colors surrounding it. This contrast effect is called simultaneous contrast. In the above design, the inner tiny squares in the middle of both of the larger outer squares are the same color. Despite the fact that they are both the exact same shade, the two tiny squares appear differently. The inner square on the left, with the darker outer square surrounding it, appears to be a lighter shade of the inner square on the right, with the brighter outer square surrounding it. This project perfectly displays how contrast can effect colors and how an object can appear more or less luminous based off its surroundings or background.
